مُعَذِّبَتي رِفْقاً بِقَلبٍ مُعذَّبِ
وإِنْ كانَ يُرْضِيْكِ العَذابُ فَعَذِّبي

شرح الأبيات:
في هذه الأبيات القصيرة، يعبر ابن عبد ربه عن حبه العميق ومعاناته مع محبوبته التي تبدو قاسية عليه. يبدأ الشاعر بمناشدة محبوبته أن تكون رفيقة بقلبه المعذّب، لكنه يقبل بعذابها إذا كان ذلك يرضيها، مما يعكس مدى حبه وتعلقه بها.

O torturer of hearts, have pity, I implore,
Yet if my pain delights you, hurt me more.
